Website Basics

Four pieces. One business presence.

A domain, website, hosting, and business email work together. You can get help connecting them without becoming a website expert.

How the pieces fit together.

The address

Domain

Your domain is your website’s address. Your domain stays in your name.

A visitor’s view

What people see

Website

Your website is what people see when they visit that address: your pages, pictures, services, and business information.

Where it lives

Hosting

Hosting keeps the website available online so people can reach it.

Your mailbox

Business email

Business email is a separate mailbox service that can use your domain. It is separate from your website and hosting.

The addresses above are examples. Your domain points visitors to your website, hosting keeps it available, and a separate mailbox provider handles business email. These services can come from different companies.

Your domain stays in your name.

Steady Hand Sites helps you choose, register or configure, and connect your domain. We manage technical settings when you authorize us.

  • You own the registrar account and supply your own payment method.
  • You pay registrar charges directly, including renewals.
  • You grant authorized access so we can help with setup.
  • You keep ownership if our working relationship ends.

We help handle the setup without taking ownership of your domain. Business email is an external, separately paid service.

What happens after launch?

Managed Hosting maintains the technical website. Content Care handles requested routine changes. Your registrar renews your domain, and your mailbox provider runs your business email.

If you are unsure which piece needs attention, start with Get Help. You do not have to diagnose it first.

Not sure what you need? That’s okay.

You don’t need to know what hosting, DNS, WordPress, or any other website terminology means before contacting us.

Tell us about your business and what you’re trying to accomplish. We’ll help you figure out the website side.
